I was able to splice additional 8/3 underground wire successfully after accidental cut in existing wire

I was having a lot of work done in my yard and someone accidentally severed a too-shallow UF cable. I was not aware of this product but my friend clued me in. Watched a couple of videos and it seemed easy enough. It was! Easy Peasy. Just be sure you have a powerful heat gun or a little butane torch because the heat-shrink tubing is thick and tough. I was reassured when a licensed electrician working on another project at the house saw me installing this and said he uses them "all the time". It really saved the day.

Works as designed

There's plenty of glue/sealant whatever it is it comes out both ends like honey when it seals up. I knocked the power supply I buried for the light post and flag pole after re mulching the garden and sticking a trellis in the ground. Perfect aim, I guess. But hey at least my electrical work is good otherwise with both hands on that it would have been quite the show see and quite the ride for me. I thought that I had buried 12/3. After this patch arrived and I dug it up i realized it was 12/2. The reviewer who recommended wrapping the cable first to bulk it up on smaller wire is correct. I should have listened to him. Though it did seal up (and we had the rain to prove it did) I would feel better if I had done it. The other reviewer recommending putting a pice of sheet metal behind it to …

If you are already familiar with basic wiring, this is a pretty easy way to fix a cut wire or splice wires somewhere where the connection must be 100% watertight, and the wire is carrying a fair bit of power.I looked at the huge, thick heat shrink tubing and worried it wouldn't contract enough too, but with a heat gun on high it did eventually shrink down fine for a 12/2 wire, with a bit of sealant running out of the ends, just as it is supposed to. That gives you a lot of confidence in the quality of the seal and that it will stay water tight. But I definitely needed the heat gun on high, and pretty close to it to get it to shrink, close enough that I was worried about catching the whole thing on fire. Disregard any reviews that say it's too hard to use the heat shrink tubing. It works properly if you use the correct tool... A HEAT GUN. Do not use a blowtorch or a hair dryer or a bic lighter or a toaster or a microwave or whatever else these jabronis are trying to use. Use a heat gun and it works perfectly. These splices are a godsend. Do not hesitate to buy.

Excellent splice & shrink tubing.NOTE: This shrink tubing needs a large quantity of heat to shrink. Use a piece of sheet metal on the back side to help contain the heat.
